Day 2: Sorry For Going Missing, Let’s Talk…

The toughest part of weight loss is…what is the toughest part for you?

For me it was the medications I have to take for my mood disorder, depression and the quickly following “carb/sugar” binge, feeling too crappy to “move it, move it”, and letting all these become excuses to eat whatever I wanted, lay around the house all day, and feel sorry for myself.

No, it’s not a pretty picture.

But the reality is that foods that are sweet and taste good (have good “mouth feel”) are typically, but not always, calorie packed. What they also do is give us a quick “feel good” jolt that, at least when you’re in a depression, can feel like a last resort.

It took help from friends, a regular meditation and yoga practice, the ok from my doctor to start cutting medications down (this took a year!), and a friend’s recommendation to try, yes, “The 17 Day Diet”. It also took being ready and willing to go through the hell that is the weight loss journey.

But I would love to hear from you what your particular challenges have been in getting started, and most importantly, sticking to it. Will talk about that in the next post – the sticking to it part. And share some of your responses!
