Will only a little over 200 calories and satisfying to boot, the secret is slicing up the banana and freezing the slices separately, then taking the time to enjoy them, piece by piece, dipped into your choice of chocolate sauces. Dark chocolate is my preference, but any type will do.
It only takes about an hour for the banana slices to freeze and about 30 seconds to heat up the chocolate sauce.
Frozen Banana Slices with Dark Chocolate Dipping Sauce
1 medium size banana, sliced into about 1/2 inch slices
1-2 tablespoons of bottled chocolate sauce
-Put a piece of waxed or parchment paper on a plate.
-Slice the banana and place the slices on the papered plate. Place in freezer for 1 hour minimum.
-When ready to eat, warm up the 1-2 tablespoons of chocolate sauce in a small bowl for a max of 30 seconds. Depending on your microwave, 20 may be enough.
-Transfer the frozen banana to a room temperature plate. Take it and your chocolate sauce to your chosen “treat” location and either dip the slices with your fingers or use a fork – either works!
Total Calories: a little over 200
Total Benefits: It takes a bit of time to prepare and time to eat as well. Instead of wolfing down 200 calories in a matter of seconds, you will enjoy this tasty treat for easily 5 – 10 minutes.
Take your time and the upside is that you’re getting healthy vitamins and nutrients from the banana and it is a great pre-workout snack or post-workout recovery. It’s also much more filling than a tiny candy bar or half a scoop of frozen yogurt!
So put down the candy bar and try this healthier alternative!
